Player stats at the end of July
Alan Trammell and Lou Whitaker continue to pace the club offensively. Trammell’s slash line is: .323/.384/.503; while Whitaker’s is almost identical at .322/.389/.503.
The Tigers have a balanced power output, with five players in double figures in homeruns. Chet Lemon, Larry Herndon and Lance Parrish lead the club with 12 each. Trammell and Whitaker are close behind with 10 round trippers.
Whitaker leads the team in runs with 56, with Trammell close on his heels. He has 52 runs scored. The RBI leader is Herndon with 56, ten better than his closest competitor. Whitaker and Herndon are tied for the triples lead with six each; Lou paces the team in doubles with 28.
The first half of the season saw Trammell the runaway leader in several categories, but now, Lou Whitaker is closing the gap.
As far as pitching, here are the records of the four starters: Jack Morris- 13-6 3.19 ERA, 140 strikeouts, 43 walks, 10 homeruns allowed, 9 complete games, 3 shutouts; Dan Petry-10-6 3.30 ERA, 86 strikeouts, 58 walks, 17 homeruns allowed, 5 complete games, 3 shutouts; Milt Wilcox- 6-9 3.56 ERA, 89 strikeouts, 73 walks, 16 homeruns allowed, 3 complete games, 1 shutout. Glenn Abbott- 7-9 3.24 ERA, 57 strikeouts, 21 walks, 16 homeruns allowed, 3 complete games, 3 shutouts.
Out of the bullpen, Juan Berenguer is 7-5 2.67 ERA, 64 strikeouts, 38 walks, 10 homeruns allowed, 2 complete games, 1 shutout. Dave Rozema is 6-6 3.05 ERA, 59 strikeouts, 19 walks, 0 complete games, 0 shutouts, 5 saves. (Berenguer and Rozema have each had spot starts.)
Aurelio Lopez has been the jewel of the pen thus far. He is 8-3, with a 1.68 ERA. He has 42 strikeouts with 27 walks. Like Rozema, he has 5 saves.
