The Tigers got off to a good start in their series against the Chicago White Sox, winning the opener, 7-2. In addition, Baltimore dropped both games of a doubleheader to Cleveland, which means Detroit is now just 3 games off the pace.
Glenn Abbott(8-9) went the distance and Lou Whitaker hit his 11th homerun, a three run bomb in the top of the fourth. Detroit added three more runs in the eighth, to win going away. Ron Kittle homered for the White Sox.
