August 8th Doubleheader Game One: Det. 5 Chi. 3. Game Two: Det 8 Chic 2
TIGERS SWEEP SOX; NOW JUST A GAME AND A HALF BEHIND ORIOLES
The Detroit Tigers kicked off their series with the Chicago White Sox in the best way possible, handing the palehose a twinbill sweep. Dan Petry(12-6) won game one, despite giving up home runs to Harold Baines and Greg Luzinski.
Detroit put up 3 runs in the very first frame, thanks to Larry Herndon’s three run clout, his 13th of the year. The team HR race is going to be very exciting this season. Herndon also added a double; and red hot, Lou Whitaker, was 3-5.
Game two was even more of a blowout, with the Tiges getting to Jerry Koosman for four runs in the fourth inning. Herndon and Cabell each had three hits. The winning pitcher was Matt Wilcox(7-9)
