1983 Detroit Tigers Replay

August 13th New York 3 Detroit 2

TIGERS DROP 3-2 HEART BREAKER TO YANKEES, ORIOLES END SKID

This was a game it was a shame either team had to lose. However, it was Detroit who came up a run short.

Matt Wilcox(7-11) was tagged for a solo homerun by Don Baylor in the first, then gave up an unearned run courtesy of a two base error by Glenn Wilson, in the fourth.

Lou Whitaker would tie the game with one swing of the bat, belting a two run homer, his 14th, in the last of the sixth.

Wilcox was still on the mound in the top of the eighth, but it proved to be one inning too many, as a single and a two walks loaded the bases with no outs. Juan Berenguer came on in relief and got Rick Cerone to ground into a double play, but Lou Pinella scored the go ahead run.

Winning pitcher, Shane Rawley took care of business the rest of the way, for the complete game win.

Baltimore beat Chicago, ending their 7 game losing skid, and are two games up on the Tigers in the loss column. Both teams have 64 wins. Ron Guidry will face Glenn Abbott in the last game of the series today.
