1983 Detroit Tigers Replay

August 22sd. Texas 6 Detroit 2

TEXAS ROLLS TO WIN IN SERIES OPENER, 6-2

Buddy Bell, Larry Parrish and Mickey Rivers all had two hits each as Frank Tanana went eight and two thirds innings as the Rangers beat Detroit in the series opener, 6-2.

Tanana gave up a run in the first inning, then basically shut the Tigers down until the ninth. Tanana fanned Lance Parrish to start the inning, but then issued a single to Larry Herndon. John Wockenfuss then drew a walk. After that, errors by Bucky Dent and Bell allowed Herndon to score Detroit’s second run. That ended Tanana’s day, but reliever, Odell Jones got Marty Castino to hit into a game ending double play.

Starter Matt Wilcox(7-12) took the loss. Glenn Wilson went 0-4, so his hit streak ends at 14 games.

Baltimore was idle, so Detroit loses a half game due to the loss.

Other scores: Boston 4 Toronto 2; California 7 Cleveland 3; Milwaukee 3 Seattle 2; Oakland 3 New York 2
