September 5th. Game # 137 Detroit 7 Cleveland 2
PARRISH, WHITAKER EACH SMACK TWO HOMERS IN TIGERS WIN OVER INDIANS
For the first time this year, multiple Tigers have hit two or more home runs in a single game. Lance Parrish(18) and Lou Whitaker(16) turned the trick in Detroit’s 7-2 win over the Cleveland Indians. Each man went deep in the first inning; then Parrish added a second in the sixth, while Whitaker followed up with his second homer, in the top of the ninth.
As they have all season, Jack Morris’ teammates gave him plenty of run support, enroute to his 21st win. Morris worked seven strong innings, before Juan Benenguer finished up.
Thanks to the Red Sox beating Baltimore, the Tigers picked up a full game in the division race.
