TIGERS TAKE BOTH ENDS OF DOUBLE HEADER TO SWEEP CLEVELAND
Detroit took care of business, and did what was expected, having their way with the worst team in the league.
They won both games of a twinbill against the Indians, winning the opener, 4-2, thanks to two unearned runs by Cleveland. Dan Petry(16-8) earned the complete game win. Lou Whitaker was 4-5, with two doubles and two rbi’s.
Julio Franco had a two run home run for the Indians.
In game two, Detroit got homers from Whitaker(17) and Glenn Wilson(7), who also doubled and had a sacrifice fly.
The Tigers held off a late Indians charge, when Gorman Thomas and Jim Essian homered in the eighth and ninth respectively. Matt Wilcox(11-12) was the winning pitcher.
Detroit is off tomorrow, then finishes up their road trip with four games against the Milwaukee Brewers.
