LOOK WHO’S IN FIRST PLACE! SURGING TIGERS TAKE OVER TOP SPOT IN A.L. EAST

Winning their tenth straight game, the red hot Detroit Tigers beat Boston, 8-3, while Baltimore was losing to Milwaukee, to take over sole possesion of first place in the American League East division by a half game.

Not since June 27th has Detroit been alone in the top spot in the standings.

In a rare start, Dave Rozema(9-7) grinded through 8 and a third innings, to collect the win. John Wockenfuss had a pair of doubles and three runs batted in. Alan Trammell collected his 16th home run and Glenn Wilson, whose long hit streak ended yesterday, picked up where he left off, with a double and single.

Detroit has a final game with Boston before travelling to Baltimore for the final series of the year with the Orioles. That series will likely decide the division crown.

Today’s other scores: Milwaukee 5 Baltimore 2; New York 9 Cleveland 2; Oakland 2 Toronto 1
