ORIOLES DESTROY TIGERS BALTIMORE HAS GAME AND A HALF LEAD
The Detroit Tigers were absolutely destroyed by the Baltimore Orioles in a 14-1 laugher.
Absolutely nothing went right for Detroit, as starter, and loser, Dan Petry(19-9) turned in his worst outing of the year.
Petry allowed seven runs in the first inning, including a Todd Cruz grand slam, one of two home runs the Baltimore third sacker had on the day.
Before the four run blast, Petry had given up two singles and four straight walks, which in itself led to three runs.
Things went from bad to worse, as Juan Berenguer came on as an innings eater, and gave up four more in the second and two in the third. The reliever surrendered homers to Eddie Murray, Cal Ripken Jr. and Cruz’s second. Cruz had seven runs batted in. Baltimore, showing no mercy, tacked on the final run in the seventh.
Detroit managed to scratch across a lone run in the third, when Alan Trammell doubled in Wayne Krenchicki.
Baltimore stretches their lead to a game and a half, with four left to play for the Tigers.
Other scores: Toronto 5 California 3; Milwaukee 7 Cleveland 4; Boston 3 New York 2.
