September 29th. Detroit 5 Baltimore 4 13 innings
TIGERS WIN IN 13 INNINGS TO KEEP DIVISION TITLE HOPES ALIVE!
WILSON PUTS TEAM ON HIS BACK. HITS GAME TYING AND GAME WINNING HR’S
One day after their worst game of the year, the Detroit Tigers showed just how much fight they have by beating the East leading Baltimore Orioles, 5-4 in thirteen innings.
Glenn Wilson was the hitting hero, belting a two run homerun to tie the game at four, in the top of the ninth, then smacking the game winner, his 10th, in the top of the 13th.
Detroit scored twice in the top of the first to take the early lead, but Baltimore came right back to tie it in the home first. They then added a run in the second and fourth, taking a 4-2 lead.
After that, neither club could break through until Wilson’s two run blast in the ninth. Starter, Milt Wilcox escaped a bases loaded jam in the sixth, and twice the Tigers had runners in scoring position but couldn’t cash in.
After Dave Rozema’s(10-8) rough outing yesterday, he bounced back with 4 innings of scoreless relief.
The Tigers head into their final series of the year against the Milwaukee Brewers. Detroit is a half game back of Baltimore with 3 games left. The Orioles have four games left against the Yankees.
Today’s other scores: Cleveland 4 Milwaukee 2; New York 4 Boston 3. Toronto was idle.
