1983 Detroit Tigers Replay

September 30th. Gm #160 Milwaukee 8 Detroit 1

TIGERS DIVISION TITLE HOPES TAKE HIT WITH 8-1 LOSS TO BREWERS

ORIOLES SPLIT TWIN BILL WITH YANKS. HAVE GAME LEAD WITH TWO TO PLAY

The last week of the 1983 season has been a roller coaster ride for the Detroit Tigers. They were shelled by Baltimore, then came back to beat them in extra innings, and now in the first game of their final series against Milwaukee, they were again routed, this time by a score of 8-1.

Moose Haas fired a four hitter for the Brew Crew, with Kirk Gibson’s(10) solo homer in the first, the only run he allowed.

Glenn Abbott(13-13) took the L for the Tigers, allowing four earned and two unearned runs, including a three run, Robin Yount home run. Ben Ogilvie also went deep later in the game off Aurelio Lopez.

Baltimore’s magic number to clinch the division is now 2. Any combination of Oriole wins or Tiger losses adding up to that number will give Baltimore the crown.

Jack Morris will try to keep the Tigers alive, as well as collect his 24th win tomorrow.

Other scores: New York 6 Baltimore 4; Baltimore 3 New York 2; Boston 10 Cleveland 0; Toronto 8 Minnesota 0
