OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION PUTS TIGERS IN TIE FOR FIRST PLACE

The Detroit Tigers exploded for 13 runs on 23 hits against the Milwaukee Brewers. At the same time, New York was beating Baltimore, 5-4, the result of which is that Detroit is now tied with the Orioles for first place in the American League East Division.

Lost in the shuffle, was Jack Morris, setting a StratBall season record with his 24th victory of the season. Morris(24-8), tossed his 15th complete game, in which he struck out five and walked only one.

The 23 hits in a game was also a season high. Chet Lemon and Alan Trammell each had four hits, while Lou Whitaker, Larry Herndon, Enos Cabell and Glenn Wilson chipped in with three each.

Kirk Gibson hit his 12th home run, while Chet Lemon hit his team leading 25th.

With one more regularly scheduled game left in the season, here is the scenario: If both Baltimore and Detroit win or lose their final game, there will be a one game playoff between the two teams.

If one club loses, and the other wins, the winner will take the division crown outright.

Other scores: New York 5 Baltimore 4; Cleveland 3 Boston 1; Toronto 4 Minnesota 3
