KINER, WESTLAKE POWER PIRATES TO SWEEP OF CUBS

Ralph Kiner(3) and Wally Westlake both went deep, helping the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Chicago Cubs, 5-3, for a series sweep.

Kiner has a home run in each of the first three games, while Westlake hit two in the first, and one in today’s game, tying him for the team lead.

Bill Werle(1-0) was the winning pitcher, toiling for seven innings. Tiny Bonham allowed a HR in relief, but picked up the save.

The Pirates are in first place in the National League, with their home opener tomorrow against the Cincinnati Reds.
