BUCS WIN HOME OPENER ON MC CULLOUGH’S 9TH INNING HIT

KINER BELTS TWO MORE HOMERS; WESTLAKE ADDS ANOTHER

The Pirates won their home opener in a wild slugfest with Cincinnati. When the dust cleared, Pittsburgh had a 10-9 victory, with catcher, Clyde McCullough singling in Wally Westlake in the bottom of the ninth.

Hal Greer(1-0) got the win in relief. Ralph Kiner(5) remained red hot to start the season, banging out a pair of homers and a double and a single. Westlake(4) clubbed his fourth of the year.

Other N.L. scores: Boston 6, N.Y. 6 (game called a tie due to rain in the ninth); St. Louis 9, Chicago 2. Brooklyn and Philadelphia were rained out.
