GIANTS SCORE IN TOP OF NINTH TO EDGE PIRATES, 3-2
Ralph Kiner(14) hit a home run in the first inning, giving Murray Dickson a two run advantage. Dickson made that hold up until Bobby Thomson smacked a two run bomb in the seventh.
Ray Poat(0-1) took over in the eighth. Poat began the ninth by giving up a double to Williard Marshall. He retired Thomson, but hit Don Mueller with a pitch. A walk to Bill Rigney loaded the bases, then Larry Jansen, a solid hitting pitcher, lifted a fly ball to center field, the result of which was a sacrifice fly that scored Marshall with the go ahead run.
