PIRATES BLOW TWO BIG LEADS; LOSE IN SHOCKING FASHION TO BRAVES
The Pittsburgh Pirates led 5-1, when the Boston Braves put up five runs, all unearned, in the top of the sixth. Then when the Bucs battled back to score four times in the bottom of the eighth, highlighted by a Dino Restelli, two run blast, it looked as if Pittsburgh would snatch victory from defeat.
But it was not to be, as Hal Greer(2-1) surrendered a three run homer to Albie Fletcher in the top of the ninth. Ray Poat allowed another Boston run, and the Braves won, 11-9, silencing a previously raucous Forbes Field crowd.
The Pirates committed three errors, two by Wally Bockman, none more critical than his sixth inning gaffe which led to five tallies.
