CARDS’ STALEY HANGS SECOND STRAIGHT SHUTOUT ON BUCS

One day after Al Brazle’s 5-0 whitewash of Pittsburgh; Gerry Staley followed with one of his own, beating the hapless Pirates, 4-0.

Pittsburgh has not scored a single run in 19 innings. The Cards got all they needed in the first, thanks to a pair of walks issued by losing pitcher, Rip Sewell(2-5), an rbi double by Enos Slaughter and a two run single by Marty Marion.

Staley held the Bucs to just four hits, while fanning five batters.

National League scores: Boston 7 Brooklyn 6; Cincinnati 2 Chicago 0; Philadelphia 5 New York 3.
