AS EXPECTED, KINER IS ONE MAN TEAM FOR PITTSBURGH
With all teams off today, it’s a chance to review the ’49 Pirates on an individual basis. As was expected, left fielder and slugger, Ralph Kiner has been the story. He leads the team in 7 individual categories, including, at bats-192; batting average-.318(min 100 at bats); hits-61; runs-43; runs batted in-44; home runs-21(at Babe Ruth’s record pace) and walks-37.
Given Pittsburgh’s dismal record, the pitching has been subpar. Only Cliff Chambers and Murray Dickson have ERA’s under 4. Chambers, at 4 and 3, is the only pitcher with a winning record. He also has the most strikeouts and least walks allowed, 35 and 9, respectively.
