PITCHING MELTDOWN LEADS TO 8 RUN INNING BY GIANTS
Dino Restelli hit a three run homer in the third and Bob Chesnes was pitching well. But things would unravel in the sixth.
Wes Westrum singled, Buddy Kerr flew out, but pitcher, Clint Hartung drew a walk. Bill Rigney laced a triple, scoring two. Hugh Casey(0-2) came on to try his luck. It was all bad. Lockman singled, plating Rigney. Gordon doubled, putting men on second and third. Mize followed that with a two run double.
Now trailing, 5-3, Vic Lombardi figured, what the heck, I’ll try. He gave up an rbi double to Marshall and a two run home run to Bobby Thomson, who began the inning with a groundout. Just for fun, Lombardi walked Westrum in his second plate appearance of the inning, before retiring Kerr for the final out.
The Bucs are a bad team. Ralph Kiner got a scheduled day off today. It was the first time he hasn’t played this season.
