STAN ROJEK SINGLES IN WINNING RUN IN BOTTOM OF 10TH

For the second day in a row, the Pirates have scored late to win a thriller. Yesterday, Phil Masi tripled in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth, today, it was Stan Rojek’s turn.

His single in the bottom of the tenth scored Clyde McCullough to give Pittsburgh a 2-1 win, and their third straight against Philadelphia.

Key in the game was a marathon pitching effort from Bob Chesnes(4-5), who worked the entire game. Bob allowed a double and two singles, struck out 3 and walked two. The only run allowed was unearned.

National League scores: Chicago 9 Boston 8; Cincinnati 4 Brooklyn 3; St. Louis 11 New York 8.
