SEWELL-GREGG COMBINE TO WHITE WASH CUBS
Rip Sewell(4-6) tossed eight innings of shutout ball and Hal Gregg finshed up the final inning to earn a save, as Pittsburgh blanked Chicago, 1-0.
Sewell fannned ten in eight innings, while walking three. The two pitchers combined allowed just four Cub hits.
Dutch Leonard, starter for Chicago, was nothing to sneeze at, as he put up zeros until the ninth, when Pete Castigilano finally plated Stan Rojek on a sacrifice fly.
