Bulletin:
VIC LOMBARDI TO REPLACE BILL WERLE IN STARTING ROTATION
Effective immediately, Vic Lombardi will replace Bill Werle in the starting rotation for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Werle, of course, heads to the bullpen.
Werle, who was not pleased with the decision, has struggled this season. In 66.5 innings pitched, he has a record of 3-8 and an ERA of 7.17, by far the highest of the starters.
In Werle’s defense, four of the 53 runs he has allowed were unearned. He has a good strikeout to walk ratio: 32-18 and has given up just four homeruns.
But Pirates management wants a shake up, and as both pitchers are lefties, this looked like the best course of action.
Lombardi is currently 2-2, with a 3.69 ERA in 31.7 innings pitched.
