SAUER’S BAT HURTS PIRATES ONCE AGAIN

For the second straight game, Chicago’s Hank Sauer hurt the Pirates with his big bat.

This time, it was a two run homer off Hugh Casey in the sixth inning, that did the damage in a 5-2 Cubs win.

Earlier in the inning, Vic Lombardi(2-3), in his first start since replacing Bill Werle in the rotation, allowed a two run homer to Hal Jeffcoat.

Lombardi left after five and a third, having allowed 3 runs on six hits. He struck out seven and walked four.

The last place Cubs take two out of three, as the Pirates head home for a Fourth of July twinbill with the Reds.
