Pittsburgh beat Cincinnati twice in the Fourth of July double header at Crosley Field in Cincinnati. Here’s how the games broke down.

In the first game, Ralph Kiner(31) hit a big, three run home run in the third, as Pittsburgh took an early 4-0 lead. The Reds chipped away, pulling to within one, but the Pirates exploded for five runs in the top of the eighth to put the game away.

In addition to Kiner, Dino Restelli had a double, two singles and scored twice. Hal Gregg(4-2) won in relief.

Game two saw Cliff Chambers(7-3) get the win, despite a late stumble in relief from Bill Werle. The freshly demoted starter allowed two runs on four hits, in just one inning.

Ed Stevens(3) homered. Kiner had a single and three walks. Pittsburgh is off tomorrow, before heading home to take on the St. Louis Cardinals.
