PIRATES ARE VISITORS AT HOME; WIN 10-8 SLUGFEST AGAINST PHILLIES
In an unprecedented situation, a game that was originally scheduled to be played in Philadelphia, had to be held at Forbes Field in Pittsburgh, as Shibe Park was being occupied for another purpose.
Pittsburgh was designated as the visiting team and batted first. After the dust cleared, the Pirates won a 10-8 slugfest in which seven home runs were hit.
None of those were more important than Dino Restelli’s(7) three run blast in the top of the ninth inning. Not to be ignored were Ed Stevens(3), who clubbed a pair, and league leader, Ralph Kiner, who belted his league leading 35th.
On the Phillies side, Willie Jones homered and Andy Semenick had two. This was the first time this year, in which a player from both teams had at least two home runs.
Elmer Riddle(2-0) picked up the win in relief. The teams boarded a train immediately after the game, to head to Philadelphia in order to finish the series.
