July 23. Gm# 87 Braves Field Boston 10 Pittsburgh 0
SPAHN + 10 = WIN
As equations for victory go, this is about as good as it gets. Warren Spahn spun a four hit shutout, while the Boston Braves offense pounded Pirate pitching for ten runs.
Pittsburgh’s best pitcher, Cliff Chambers(7-5) has stumbled of late, with his second poor start in a row. In the bottom of the fourth, Chambers was battered for six consecutive hits, before, mercifully being pulled for Hal Gregg.
The game was out of reach at that point, but just for fun, Pete Reiser decided to club a grand slam off Gregg in the bottom of the sixth.
With the series tied at one all, the two teams square off in a double header tomorow.
