August 3. Gm# 97 Forbes Field Brooklyn 13 Pittsburgh 3

DODGERS EMBARRASS PIRATES; KINER HOMERS

The Brooklyn Dodgers gave the Pittsburgh Pirates a through shellacking, winning a 13-3 decision at Forbes Field.

As has been the case much of the year, the Pirates only bright spot was Ralph Kiner, who hit a two run home run, his 42sd of the season.

The Dodgers had two players who were a hit away from the cycle. Ed Hermanski had a single, double and triple; Gil Hodges homered, and added a single and a double.

Duke Snider was 5-6 with a triple. Bill Rackley was 4-5 with a walk.

Pittsburgh’s pitching staff was like a target in a shooting gallery. Starter, Bill Chesnes lasted 3 innings, giving up three runs on five hits, also walking three and hitting a batter.

Next up was official loser, Ray Poat(2-4). He also went 3, surrendering three runs, on six hits.

Elmer Riddle then tried his luck. Two innings, two runs, three hits.

Hugh Casey saved the best for last. 5 runs allowed in just one inning, including a grand slam to Hodges.

Boy oh boy.
