BUCS HOLD OFF DODGERS, 4-3; EARN SPLIT OF SERIES
An Ed Stevens double, singles by Stan Rojek, Wally Westlake and Dixie Walker, plus an error by Jackie Robinson, led to 3 Pirate runs in the first.
The Bucs had a 3-2 lead when Phil Masi singled in Kiner in the bottom of the fifth. Robinson somewhat redeemed himself for the error by tripling off Cliff Chambers(8-6) in the top of the eighth. Luis Olmo doubled in Jackie, to cut it to 4-3.
With two out, and Olmo on second as the tying run, Bill Werle came in as a lefty on lefty matchup against Duke Snider. He came through, getting Snider to fly out. Hal Gregg then came on to finish up in the ninth.
Pittsburgh ends up splitting the four game set with the second place Dodgers. They now welcome Philadelphia to town for another four game series.
