FOUR RUN SEVENTH INNING COSTS BUCS IN 5-4 LOSS TO PHILLIES
Starter, Rip Sewell, pitched well early, carrying a 2-1 lead into the seventh, but then faltered. He gave up a lead off triple to Del Ennis, who scored on Buddy Blattner’s sac fly. Two more base on balls ended Sewell’s day.
Tiny Bonham(4-3) took over and got the second out of the inning, but then lost Richie Ashburn on another free pass, loading the bases. Granny Hamner hit a hard shot off Rojek’s glove, plating Andy Semanick, and keeping the bases full. Dick Sisler then stroked a two run double.
Pittsburgh got a run in the home seventh and ninth, but could draw no closer. Ralph Kiner ended the game by lining to shortstop with two on and two out in the bottom of the ninth.
Stan Rojek had a three hit day, with two runs scored, in a losing cause.
