PHILLIP’S PINCH HIT DOUBLE SPARKS 5 RUN RALLY IN PIRATE WIN

Murray Dickson(5-9) and Ken Heintzelman traded zeroes for six innings, until the Phillies broke through with a run in the top of the seventh.

In the bottom of the seventh, Jack Phillips, pinch hitting for Dickson, ignited a five run rally with a double. Following that, Pittsburgh hammered Philly with five straight singles and a fielder’s choice, good for five markers.

Elmer Riddle held the Phils at bay over the last two frames. The two squads square off in a double header tomorrow, as the Bucs longest home stand of the year comes to a close.

National League scores: Chicago 10 Boston 4; Cincinnati 5 Brooklyn 2; New York 3 St. Louis 1.
