STALEY AND CARDS HAVE EASY TIME WITH BUCS

Gerry Staley tossed a complete game, four hitter as St. Louis stopped Pittsburgh, 6-1. Red Schoendiest was 4-4 with two doubles and a sacrifice. Enos Slaughter had two hits and two rbis; Rocky Nelson had two hits and scored twice.

Stan Musial was held in check, going 0-4 with a walk.

Staley’s worst inning was the first. Two walks and a double by Ed Stevens led to the Pirates lone run. After that, he settled into a nice groove.

Loser Vic Lombardi(3-4) despite striking out seven, struggled in every inning. Hal Greer was ineffective in relief, allowing three runs in two innings.
