WALKER GIVES BUCS SPARK OFF THE BENCH IN 5-2 WIN OVER CARDS

Dixie Walker came off the bench and gave Pittsburgh a spark, going 2-4 with a double and scoring two runs in a 5-2 win over the first place Cardinals.

Winner, Bob Chesnes(6-5) was solid, allowing two runs on four hits in six innings of work. One of those runs was a solo homer by Red Schoendiest.

Chesnes also singled both times he came to bat.

National League scores: Chicago 5 Cincinnati 4; Phila-N.Y. and Bost-Brkn both rained out.
