KINER TIES STRATBALL RBI RECORD; PIRATES ROLL PAST DODGERS, 9-4

Ralph Kiner collected his 46th homerun, leaving him just 4 short of setting a new Stratball record. The two run homer and an rbi single give him 114 runs batted in for the year, tying the single season mark set by Dave Kingman ’79 Cubs.

Kiner is also in line to fly past the single season runs scored record of 99, set by Davey Lopes ’79 Dodgers. Ralph currently has 96 runs scored.

Pittsburgh beat a powerful Brooklyn club with a team effort. Ed Stevens had a double, two singles and scored twice; Tom Saffell had three singles, scored twice and drove in two runs; Dixie Walker and Monty Basgall each doubled and scored a run.

On the mound, Bob Chesnes(9-6), Elmer Riddle and Hugh Casey combined to limit the Dodgers to just five hits. Base on balls were an issue, as the Bucs allowed five free passes, two of which scored.

Carl Furillo homered and doubled against Chesnes.
