Catcher Ed Fitzgerald made it a career day as he spelled regular backstops, Clyde McCullough and Phil Masi.

Fitzy went 4-5 with a double, scored a run and drove in five to lead Pittsburgh by Chicago, 7-1.

Three Cub errors and six walks by Chicago pitchers also helped the cause greatly.

Cliff Chambers(11-9) grinded out a complete game win, allowing just the one run, despite being tagged for nine basehits.

The Bucs have a tall task ahead with a Labor Day twinbill against the league leading St. Louis Cardinals.
