BUCS-GIANTS SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER ; KINER SOCKS # 51
The New York Giants and Pittsburgh Pirates each took a game in their most recent doubleheader. New York demolished Pittsburgh in game one, 12-4.
Whitey Lockman and Wes Westrum each homered for the Giants in the drubbing. Ralph Kiner doubled and hit his 51st home run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Kiner has also reached the 130 rbi plateau.
Harry Gumbert(2-2) took the loss in relief, allowing four runs in one inning.
Things worked out better for the Buccos in game two, as Cliff Chambers(12-10), with some help from Tiny Bonham, earned the Pirates a 4-2 win. Pete Castigliano had a double and a triple to help the winning cause.
