FRANK QUINN MAKES 1 RUN HOLD UP IN FINE RELIEF EFFORT

Though Boston starter, Ellis Kinder didn’t allow a run in his 5.2 innings pitched, he was tagged for eight hits and issued three walks in that span.

With Philadelphia’s Joe Coleman matching Kinder zero for zero, and with Kinder not having his best stuff, the Red Sox went to Frank Quinn(1-0), midway through the sixth.

Boston gave Quinn the only run he would need in the top of the seventh. Ted Williams drew a walk, then after Vern Stephens fanned, Al Zarilla singled, sending Williams to third. Birdie Tebbetts then hit a sacrifice fly, for the game’s only run.

Quinn closed out the game, tossing 3.1 innings of scoreless, hitless ball for the Red Sox’ second win of the year.
