1949 Boston Red Sox Replay

April 29. Gm# 10 Yankee Stadium New York 6 Boston 1

YANKEE POWER TOO MUCH FOR RED SOX IN 6-1 LOSS

Tommy Heinrich hit a first inning grand slam; and Bobby Brown added a solo shot in the seventh, as New York powered past Boston, 6-1.

The Red Sox drew first blood, when Dom DiMaggio scored on a Vern Stephens single in the top of the opening frame, but Ellis Kinder(0-2) issued three straight singles to begin, then offered up the four run, gopher ball to Heinrich.

Though Boston had a runner as far as third base after that, Vic Rashi and Spec Shea prevented any further scoring.

Ed Stevens went 2-4, with a single and a double, but Ted Williams’ slump continues. He was 0-3 with a walk.

Other American League scores: Cleveland 4 Detroit 1; Philadelphia 6 Washington 5; only other games scheduled.
