RED SOX DESTROY YANKS IN 11-2 ROUT; WILLIAMS BUSTS OUT WITH GRAND SLAM

One day after Boston left ten men on base, the team came together to absolutely destroy the New York Yankees by a score of 11-2.

An eight run, eighth inning was highlighted by a Ted Williams(3) grand slam homerun. The star left fielder broke out of a batting lull, not only hitting the four run blast, but also singling twice. He scored three times and drove in four.

Bobby Doerr had three hits, while Johnny Pesky and Billy Goodman each had two. The Red Sox took advantage of five walks, with three of those receiving free passes also scoring runs.

On the mound, starter, Mike McDermott(3-0) and Chuck Stobbs combined for a fine pitching job. Each worked approximately half the game. McDermott went five innings, allowing one run, on three hits. He struck out one, walked two and gave up a homerun to Jack Phillips, in the second inning.

In relief, Stobbs went four innings, allowing one run on five hits. He fanned two and walked two.

This was an important game, for it showed the Red Sox could not only beat New York, but have the ability to manhandle them.

There are no games scheduled in the American League tommorow. Boston visits Detroit on May 3.
