RED SOX BEAT UP ON LAST PLACE BROWNS IN TWINBILL SWEEP

Boston won twice against the Browns in a doubleheader at St. Louis. They won the opener, 7-4. After starter Mel Parnell stumbled early, Jack Kramer(2-1) came on a pitched six innings of scoreless ball, allowing just four hits. He struck out two and walked one. Bobby Doerr led the offense with a four hit day, including two doubles.

In the second game, Walt Masterson(1-0)pitched a complete game in a spot start. He gave up two runs on eight hits. He fanned four and walked two batters. The Red Sox were aided by seven walks. Dom DiMaggio, Johnny Pesky, Billy Goodman, Al Zarilla, Birdie Tebbetts and Merl Combs all had two hits apiece. Combs was filling in for Pesky in the first game, then for Vern Stephens in the second game.

In an odd scheduling quirk, only N.Y. and Detroit play in the American League tomorrow. Boston will finish up their series with St. Louis on the 10th of May.
