DIMAGGIO’S HOMER IN 8TH ALLOWS BOSTON TO SQUEAK BY ST. LOUIS

Dom DiMaggio’s(3) solo home run in the last of the eighth inning allowed the Boston Red Sox to pull out a 7-6 win over the last place St. Louis Browns.

Despite being in the American League basement, the Browns always seem to give the Bosox all they can handle. Boston led, 6-4 after three innings, with Jack Graham’s three run clout off starter, Joe Dobson, keeping St. Louis in the game.

St. Louis would add a run in the seventh and another in the eighth off Chuck Stobbs, to tie the game.

Frank Quinn(3-0)was once again in the right place at the right time, coming in to complete the eighth inning, therefore being the pitcher of record for the ninth. He retired the side in order in the final inning.

Bobby Doerr added a triple and a single, scoring twice and driving in two runs. Base on balls hurt the Browns, as they issued ten free passes. However, they outhit Boston, 12-7.

Other American League scores: New York 6 Detroit 2; Philadelphia 6 Chicago 4; Washington 6 Cleveland 2
