MCDERMOTT TOSSES ANOTHER GEM

Mickey McDermott thrilled Red Sox fans with another pitching masterpiece. The team leader in wins(7-1), Mickey spun a three hit shutout against St. Louis. He fanned five and walked three.

A couple of twin killings aided McDermott’s effort. The closest he came to losing the shutout was in the ninth inning. With two out, Jerry Priddy got his second hit of the day, a double in the gap. Roy Sievers then walked, but McDermott fanned right fielder, Dick Kokos to end the game.

Bobby Doerr(5) homered and Al Zarilla had a triple.

Other American League scores: Washington 5 Cleveland 4; Detroit at New York was postponed by rain, those were the only games scheduled.
