PARNELL GRINDS HIS WAY TO 3RD SHUTOUT, THANKS TO TEBBETTS HR
Two starts ago, Mel Parnell(6-1) lost a chance for a shutout when he was pulled from the game after issuing seven walks. At the time, he was upset about it, feeling he should have been given the opportunity to finish the game.
Yesterday, Joe McCarthy let Parnell finish and as a result, the moundsman collected his third shutout, in a 1-0 win against the Washington Senators.
It was far from pretty however. Boston’s lone run came on a Birdie Tebbetts(2) solo home run in the second inning. Vern Stephens committed two errors and it took Dom DiMaggio gunning down a runner at the plate, as well as Eddie Yost being tagged out in a rundown between third and home, to nail down the shutout.
This time around, Parnell struck out just one batter, while walking three. He gave up seven hits as well.
