PESKY’S 9TH INN TRIPLE SNATCHES VICTORY FROM DEFEAT FOR BOSTON

Trailing Cleveland 5-3 heading into the ninth inning, Johnny Pesky slugged a bases loaded three bagger, to pull off a stunning, 6-5, comeback win for the Boston Red Sox.

Vern Stephens(12) got the ball rolling with a three run, first inning home run, then neither team scored until the Indians broke through against starter, Ellis Kinder, in the top of the sixth.

With one out in that inning, Kinder walked Ken Keltner and Larry Doby, then surrendered an rbi single to Joe Gordon. Lou Boudeau fanned, but Bob Kennedy laced a double, plating Doby.

Jack Kramer came on in relief of Kinder and was shelled, allowing two more runs on two singles and a double, without recording a single out.

Lucky Frank Quinn(6-0) continues to carry his baseball horseshoe every time he takes the mound. Despite giving up back to back doubles, and Cleveland’s third run of the inning, after relieving Kramer, he was the pitcher of record when the Indians scored three times in the bottom of the ninth, so he remains undefeated.

The Chicago White Sox invade Fenway for a four game set, starting with a double header tomorrow.
