ZARILLA’S 2SD GRAND SLAM OF YEAR LEADS BOSOX PAST CHISOX, 5-2

Strat stats:

Al Zarilla’s(5) third inning grand slam off Billy Pierce, was his second of the year, in a total of five home runs hit by the Red Sox right fielder.

Boston committed three errors in this game, two of them, two base errors. That is the first time that has happened. Zarilla and Pesky were the culprits.

Winning pitcher, Mickey McDermott(8-3) and Jack Kramer combined on a two hitter. Mickey had pitched a strong seven innings. He had allowed a home run to Cass Michaels in the first and an unearned run in the sixth, but had fanned eight in seven innings. However, manager Joe McCarthy had no qualms about pulling the plug on McDermott, as he had done with Parnell earlier in the year.

The Red Sox are up 2-1 in the series, with the final game tomorrow.

Other American League scores: New York 6 Cleveland 3; St. Louis-Philadelphia and Detroit – Washington both postponed.
