BOSTON BULLPEN IMPLODES IN 7-5 LOSS TO DETROIT
Game notes:
At the end of seven innings, Micky McDermott had pitched the Red Sox to a 5-2 lead. In an instant, that lead disappeared. Jack Kramer came in and didn’t retire a single batter, allowing three straight singles and a walk, putting the Tigers within one run.
Frank Quinn(6-2) then replace Kramer, but his early season magic seems to have worn off. He got pinch hitter, George Kell to hit into a double play and retired Eddie Lake for the second out, but then the wheels came off.
Paul Campbell and Vic Wertz hit back to back doubles, then Hoot Evers singled in Wertz.
Bobby Doerr(9) homered in the loss.
The St. Louis Browns split a double header with New York, and the Browns will next take on Boston in a four game series.
Other American League scores: St. Louis 5, 8 New York 1, 10; Cleveland 7 Philadelphia 3; Chicago 4 Washington 1
