RED SOX SURVIVE ANOTHER GAME WITH LOWLY BROWNS

The St. Louis Browns are the worst team in the American League, yet you’d never know it, based on the way they play Boston.

Though the Red Sox have won all three games of a four game set thus far, the games have been too close for comfort. The last two have been decided by one run and the first contest was won by a 4-2 score.

Despite walking eighth batters in just five and two thirds innings, Browns starter, Bill Kennedy left with a 5-3 lead.

That’s because Boston starter, Walt Masterson gave up a crushing, three run blast to Roy Sievers, in the top of the third, then allowed two more runs, in the fifth.

The saving grace in this game was the relief pitching of Tex Hughson(3-2), whose four and two thirds innings of scoreless relief earned him his third win of the season.

Bobby Doerr(11) homered for the second straight day and doubled twice.

The series concludes today. Look for several bench players to relive the starters, as Boston prepares for a big upcoming series with the New York Yankees.
