June 26. Gm# 64 Fenway Park Boston 9 St. Louis 2
RED SOX ROUT BROWNS TO COMPLETE SERIES SWEEP
Game notes:
Boston must have read the clippings about allowing the St. Louis Browns to hang with them, because in the final game of the series, they poured it on, routing the Brownies, 9-2, to complete a four game, series sweep.
Dom DiMaggio was only lacking a triple for the cycle, as he homered(5), doubled and singled, knocking in three runs.
Tommy O’Brien, playing in right field, hit his (2sd) home run and also singled and walked.
Al Zarilla, who shifted to left to give Ted Williams some rest, had a double and two singles.
Matt Batts filled in for Birdie Tebbetts, behind the plate. He had a single and walk and scored twice.
Boston was able to use Jack Kramer(3-1) in a spot start, thereby setting up the top of the rotation against Allie Reynolds and the Yankees, in two days.
After Kramer went six innings, Frank Quinn came on and finished up the last three innings.
The league is dark tomorrow, with the big Yankees – Red Sox series on deck. Yankee superstar, Joe DiMaggio, brother of Red Sox centerfielder, Dom, is expected to play, after having missed all of the ’49 season so far, with a heel injury.
