Mel Parnell(12-1) showed why he is the pitching ace of this team. He earned his second straight complete game win, holding the Senators to just four hits. Parnell gave up two runs in the second inning, both unearned.

Mel also showed he’s no slouch with the stick, going two for four, with a single, double and two runs scored in the 9-2 Boston win over Washington.

Al Zarilla(7,8) had his first multi homer game, belting solo shots in the fifth and eighth.

The red hot Red Sox have won seven games in a row. Boston is 30 games over .500 and has cracked the .700 mark in team winning percentage.
