1949 Boston Red Sox Replay

July 7. Gm#74 Griffith Stadium Boston 8 Washington 4 (game susp after 6 inn)

RED SOX-SENATORS TILT SUSPENDED AFTER SIX INNINGS, TO BE FINISHED LATER

In order to catch a train which would return them to Boston, the Red Sox were given permission to leave a game in progress, in which they were leading 8-4, after six innings of play, at Griffith Stadium in Washington.

American League president, William Harridge gave the go ahead for the game to end early, however, he said the game must continue from the point at which it was stopped and be completed at a later date this season.

Therefore, this is not an official game yet, and Boston will stay at 74 games played. The likely date for the completion of the game would be August 20th, as Boston will be back in the nation’s capital for a regular scheduled game then.

Here’s the other A.L. action from today: Cleveland 8 Chicago 2; New York 6 Philadelphia 2; Detroit 9 St. Louis 2
