VIC WERTZ TIES STRATBALL RECORD WITH 3 HR’S IN TIGERS, 10-2 ROUT

Detroit’s Vic Wertz joined Hank Sauer and Sid Gordon as the only players in Stratball with three home runs in one game.

Wertz hit one off Mickey McDermott(9-5) in the third inning, then two off of Walt Masterson, in the fifth and seventh innings, respectively. It was a five rbi day for the Detroit right fielder.

Boston got solo homers from Bobby Doerr(15) and Ted Williams(21), but the Red Sox were never in this game.

The Yankees picked up a full game, as they defeated St. Louis.
